On Top of the World
Song Composition
"On Top of the World" primarily features guitar and piano instrumentation, with vocals performed by lead
singer Dan Reynolds. Originally published in the key of C major, the song itself expresses a celebration of
accomplishment for the band after striving for years to become successful. The song itself incorporates the chords C, F,
Dm, and G, with the pre-chorus using G and Am to create a different break in
the song.
Song origin
The song itself made to expresses a celebration of accomplishment for
the band after striving for years to become successful.
Mainly because they have been in the music industry for years.
Meanings within the lyrics
In the first two stanzas the song talks about how we often
take people for granted. We might be friendly in thought or even action, but we
never tell them how much they really mean to us. This is a problem I believe is
being increasingly lost in our culture today – we don’t take the time to
communicate our true feeling for each other. Every thing is about instant
communication.
The next verse talks about how a lot of times, we try to take
“short-cuts” to find happiness. These short-cuts have a wide range of
possibilities, everything from buying lottery tickets to try and get rich
quick, to doing as little as possible to complete a task, to something more
serious such as turning to drugs or alcohol to give you that “happy” feeling.
And in the chorus,
talks about hardwork that will lead us to achieve our dreams just like the band
hardwork to become successful.
In conclusion, I like this song. It’s a catchy tune, and I
think the message is a good one. The writer said that the lyrics mainly about
dreams that coming true for hardword that we’ve done.
